Home hope Dani Sordo leads the Rally of Catalonia at the end of Friday’s special stages ahead of Sebastien Ogier, who can clinch his fourth consecutive world title in Spain.

The French VW Polo driver is in a strong position to retain his world championship crown which is his if he wins, or finishes in the first three should victory go to his nearest rival Andreas Mikkelsen.

The Norwegian is placed third in the third last rally of the year, 18sec behind Ogier and 35sec shy of Sordo.

Sordo, behind the wheel of a Hyundai, rose to the top of the times with wins in special stages five and six on dirt roads in the hills of Tarragona.

The day’s big loser was Jari-Matti Latvala, whose charge into third came to a premature end when he parked his suspension-damaged VW before the finish of stage five.
