Veterans Charo Soriano and Alexa Micek stayed unbeaten after defeating Bacolod’s Erjane Magdato and Alexa Polidario, 21-19, 21-16, to advance to the semifinals of the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) On Tour on Friday at the Sands, SM by the Bay in Pasay City.
The Bacolod volleybelles had a good start taking the lead 10-4 courtesy of Polidario but Micek regained her rhythm and cut the lead down to 10-8.
Soriano helped out with solid blocking to tie the game 12-12 and claim the victory under the scorching Friday heat.
“We are happy we won against the Bacolod girls. They gave us a good game,” said Soriano, one of BVR founders.
Soriano and Micek captured four titles in the seven-leg tour, making them the top seed team in the tournament. They ruled in La Union, Cagayan, Negros Oriental and Boracay.
Judy Ann Caballejo and Anna Camille Abanto of Air Force, Jennifer Cosas and Floremel Rodriguez of Negros, and Bea Tan and Fiola Ceballos subdued their respective opponents to join Soriano and Micek in the Final Four.
Caballejo and Abanto tamed Tagum’s Lourdilyn Catubag and Karen Kay Quilario, 14-21, 21-11, 15-11, while Cosas and Rodriguez trounced Cebu’s Apple Saraum and Jusabelle Brillo, 21-15, 21-13.
Tan and Ceballos needed an extra set to oust Dhannylaine Demontaño and Jackielyn Estoquia of Iloilo, 21-12, 15-21, 15-9.
“We think that the sport is now growing. Our vision is to grow and promote the sport. We want to educate the people in the communities about the sport we love,” said Soriano, who along with Tan, Gretchen Ho, Gzi Gervacio, and Fille Cainglet-Cayetano started the BVR group.
