• So’s match vs Kramnik elicits draw

Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So settled for a draw with former world champion GM Vladimir Kramir of Russia in 40 moves of Barczan System in the second round of the Gashimov Memorial in Shamkir City, Azerbaijan. With the draw, a three-log jam was formed after World Champion and world No.1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway defeated GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan in 26 moves of Ruy Lopez Berlin. So, Kramnik and Carlsen are now ahead with 1.5 points going to the second round of the single-nine-round tournament in honor of GM Vulga Gashimov, a chess hero in the former Soviet territory.
