• Spalletti fires warning shot to misfiring Roma

MILAN: Roma coach Luciano Spalletti warned the embattled Serie A side to expect hard toil at the club’s training ground after officially signing an 18-month deal on Friday. Former coach Rudi Garcia, who led Roma to two consecutive runner-up places behind Juventus the past two seasons, was sacked on Wednesday after Roma had slipped to fifth place at seven points behind leaders Napoli. Spalletti, who won three trophies in a four-year spell at the Stadio Olimpico from 2005-2009, was confirmed as the club’s new coach on Thursday after returning from Miami where he met co-owner and president James Pallotta. The 56-year-old Italian admits he faces a tough task amid what is the tightest race for Serie A supremacy since the early 1990s.
