Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. of Quezon City is not planning to visit his former ally, former President Gloria Arroyo of Pampanga, who is under hospital arrest for pending P366 million plunder charges in connection with state charity funds.
Belmonte made the pronouncement a day after former First Lady Imelda Marcos paid a visit to Congresswoman Arroyo who has been battling a lingering bone ailment in hospital detention.
“I have no plans of visiting her. If she needs to do something here in the House, her people talk to me and that’s okay,” Belmonte, who used to be party-mates under Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party, said in a press conference.
Belmonte bolted Lakas-CMD before the 2010 Presidential elections and joined the Liberal Party now chaired by President Benigno Aquino 3rd. Belmonte is the Vice Chairman of the LP.
“I also talk to her son, Dato, and I find him a very fine man. I talk to Dato from time to time to ask about her [Congresswoman Arroyo], how she has been,” Belmonte added.
Mrs. Marcos, the widow of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, joined the growing list of prominent personalities who recently paid a visit to Mrs. Arroyo.
Aside from Mrs. Marcos, Congresswoman Arroyo’s recent visitors include: Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz, former president and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, former President Fidel Ramos, former Vice President Noli de Castro and evangelist Bro. Eddie Villanueva. LLANESCA T. PANTI
