Besides the Metro Manila Film Festival, the Christmas season is also a time for family-friendly shows on stage year in and year out, which for the first time has Sanrio character Hello Kitty coming to life.
Aptly dubbed Hello Kitty Live, the travel production combining song, dance and fashion, premiered in Manila on December 21 and continues to run at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City.
With cutting edge technology and original animation on HD LED walls, Hello Kitty Live! Fashion and Friends engages its audience to value friendship, talent, hard work, respect and politeness.
The story’s narrator, Sophie, who also happens to be the only human character in the musical, spoke with reporters at the sidelines of the show’s media conference at Marco Polo Ortigas just before Christmas, and guaranteed Filipinos an enjoyable time at Hello Kitty Live!
“Yes, I am the only human character in this show and the rest are dressed in costumes,” she laughed. “I am the main link between the characters and the audience—and my task is to get everyone watching involved in the show.”
A well-loved and timeless character, Hello Kitty has fans across different age brackets, so much so that they are in for a much-awaited treat. As Sophie revealed: “What makes this show extra special is that this is the very first time Hello Kitty will actually talk. And so will Mimi, Dear Daniel and Badz Maru.”
Set in modern-day London, the story revolves around Hello Kitty’s endeavor to chase her dreams with the help of her friends.
Pop songs by Bruno Mars, Charlie XCX, and Echosmith comprise the repertoire as Hello Kitty begins her journey taking the cast and the audience on a dancing spree.
Hello Kitty Live runs until January 3. The Manila Times is a media partner of this show.
