STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) has restored full operation of its power generating Unit 2 back to the Mindanao grid, which is expected to improve electricity supply in the region.
Dr. Carsten Evers, manager of the SPI power plant, said the unit was synchronized to the Mindanao grid at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, five days earlier than schedule.
SPI’s 210 megawatt (net) coal-fired power plant at the Phividec Industrial Estate in Villanueva , Misamis Oriental is composed of two identical units with a power generating capacity of 105 MW each.
Unit 2 went off-line last July 18 for a scheduled preventive maintenance.
Evers explained that preventive maintenance activities have to be carried out as part of the company’s continuing commitment to ensure quality and long-term plant performance.
“Periodic preventive maintenance of our units is an important and necessary strategy to ensure that we have efficient and reliable plant operation,” said Evers.
He said the goal is to provide Mindanao with a more sustained and stable electric power supply in the long run.
