SSC completes nine-game sweep, earns finals slot

San Sebastian rode on the spike-spewing Grethcel Soltones as it turned back a gritty College of Saint Benilde, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, to sweep the elimination round and barge straight to the finals in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 91 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The crisp-hitting Soltones went on beast mode and unloaded a match-high 32 hits, 24 came on kills, six on services aces and two on blocks as the Lady Stags completed a nine-game sweep of the eliminations that sent them straight to the finals where they will enjoy a thrice-to-beat edge.

“She’s just playing inspired right now,” said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb of Soltones.

Soltones and the rest of San Sebastian await its finals foe, which could be one among defending champion Arellano University (8-1), University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (7-2) or Benilde (6-3).

The Lady Altas, who smothered the Letran Lady Knights, 25-12, 25-23, 25-21, earlier, will play the Lady Blazers in a knockout duel on Tuesday with the winner facing the Lady Chiefs in another no-tomorrow contest for the right to face off the Lady Stags in the championship.
