It’s still under wraps, but film/TV actress Cherie Gil is slated to appear in a play this year. Who knows, she might even produce the play herself, the way she did with Full Gallop in 2014—and for which she eventually won Outstanding Female Lead Performance in a Play from the Gawad Buhay PhilStage Awards
Gil, who is primarily known as an award-winning actress on film and televison, is among the growing number of showbiz denizens who have been gracing the “legitimate stage” to lend it commercial appeal and acting distinction. She is, in fact, a nominee again for the upcoming 8th Gawad Buhay on April 28.
The only daughter of veteran film stars Rosemarie Gil and Eddie Mesa, Gil has been nominated for her role as an impoverished haciendera in Arbol de Fuego, a Filipino/Tagalog adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Orchard by Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA).
Incidentally, her brother Michael de Mesa is likewise nominated for Outstanding Male Lead Performance in a Musical for his work in La Cage aux Folles.
