Stags seek solo lead in NCAA

SAN Sebastian College tries to snatch solo leadership when it battles equally tough Jose Rizal University (JRU) while College of St. Benilde Blazers and Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals collide today in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The San Juan Arena in San Juan City.

The Stags, fresh from their 85-83 win over Letran on the opening day, face the Heavy Bombers at 2 p.m. while the Blazers and the Generals tangle at 12 noon. The juniors division matches pit the EAC Brigadiers against the CSB Baby Blazers at 10 a.m. and the San Sebastian Staglets against the JRU Light Bombers at 4 p.m.

Coach Topex Robinson said his wards are in high esteem following their victory over archrival Knights, thanks to Jamil Ortuoste’s triple and rookie Rhanzelle Yong’s steal in the dying seconds.

However, Robinson warned his wards of complacency saying the Heavy Bombers are all-out to avenge their 49-57 setback to the defending titlist San Beda College Red Lions also on Saturday.

Besides Ortuoste and Yong, the Stags will also lean on Jaymar Perez, Jovit de la Cruz, Jerick Fabian, Bradwyn Guinto, Eulo Aquino, Michael Calisaan, Bobby Balucanag and Israel Camasura.

Also set to oppose them are Philip Paniamogan, Gio Lasquety, Michael Mabulac, Marco Balagtas, Teodoro Bernabe, Anthony Benavides, Juan Salaveria, Dave Sanches, Geneses Manuel and John Gorospe.
