Stallion FC nipped the surging Nomads FC, 4-2, in the United Football League (UFL) 2016 first round on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
It was the Stallions who commanded the first half of the ball game but Nomads gave them a run for their money in the second the slice the deficit down to just two goal at the end of regulation.
Fitch Arboleda ignited the offense of the Stallions in the 19th minute of the game with a strike from the middle of the field to give his club an early 1-0 advantage.
It did not take long before Stallion managed to double their lead as proficient scorer Joshua Beloya found the back of the net from close range in the 30th minute.
Beloya once again took the floor before the halftime whistle with a shot off a pass by Arboleda from deep inside the box, handing Stallion a 3-0 lead at the break.
Nomads came back for the second half with a renewed vigor as striker Stephen Appiah snapped their goalless drought in the 54th and narrow the lead down to just two goals.
The run of the Nomads continued until the 66th minute as James Eje left his defenders and outsmarted their foes’ goalie to take an easy shot on goal.
Meanwhile, Patrick Franksson powered the slumping Laos FC side to their first win of the season at the expense of Pasargad FC, 6-1, in the initial game of the day.
Franksson registered an impressive goal output of four goals off two conversions in each half to put place their team in the winning column after a dismal start.
Aaron Altiche opened the scoring for Laos in the eighth minute of the game while Hamed Hajimahdi also made his mark with a goal of his own in the 29th minute.
