THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Tuesday have placed the Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) of nine units of Starlight Express Bus under preventive suspension for 30 days. LTFRB Board member, lawyer Ariel Inton, said the suspension stemmed from accident involving Starlight buses in Zamboanga del Sur on March 12 that resulted to the death of five people and injured scores other passengers. Its operator – Alan Albor – was directed to effect the necessary remedy on their bus units and surrender the for-hire plates to LTFRB region 9 office in Zamboanga City on Thursday. Albor and the driver were also asked to appear for the hearing of the case on March 30. Meanwhile, Inton reminded all bus operators to conduct regular bus check-ups and maintenance prior to their trip, especially this Lenten season when increase of the number of passengers is expected.
