• Stars bid goodbye to Direk Wenn

The remains of box-office director Wenn Daramas were finally laid to rest a week ago on March 6 at the Himlayang Pilipino in Quezon City.

Paying their final respects to the veteran director were his family, friends, and colleagues, including Vice Ganda, Claudine Barretto, Gladys Reyes, Ricky Davao, Candy Pangilinan, BB Gandanghari, Karla Estrada, and ABS-CBN executives Charo Santos-Concio and Malou Santos.

Before Direk Wenn was brought to his final resting place, a mass was held at the Dolphy Theater inside the ABS-CBN compound. The night before, the network also paid tribute to the director with a necrological service attended by his loved ones and industry colleagues.

Titled “Paalam, Direk Wenn: Thank You for the Love and Laughter,” the program was filled with lots of laughter and hilarious anecdotes about Direk Wenn. It was hosted by some of his closest friends, including Star Cinema’s Roxy Liquigan, comedians Candy Pangilinan, Atak Arana, Eagle Riggs, and John Sweet Lapus, and directors Andoy Ranay and Don Cuaresma.

The service included a skit featuring Wonder Woman, Direk Wenn’s favorite fictional superhero, and moving performances from singer Jude Michael and Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano.

Direk Wenn’s best friend Atet Manalo, friend and colleague Mel Del Rosario, and kids Gab and Raffy also recalled him as a loyal friend and loving father.

Vice Ganda, who worked with Direk Wenn in blockbuster films such as Beauty and the Bestie, The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin, and Sisterakas, capped off the necrological service with a fun musical skit with comedians Kiray and Tetay.

Their final words to the director gone too soon were heartfelt “thanks for the love and laughter.”
