• State of emergency in Ferguson as teen charged in police shootout

FERGUSON, Missouri: St. Louis County declared a state of emergency Monday following a night of unrest in Ferguson, after a teenager was charged with shooting at police officers. In a statement, St. Louis County executive Steve Stenger said county police would immediately take charge of “police emergency management” in Ferguson and surrounding districts. His statement was issued as an 18-year-old was charged in connection with a shootout in Ferguson on Sunday after a day of peaceful protests marking the first anniversary of the police shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown. The suspect, Tyrone Harris, remained in hospital Monday with wounds sustained in the shootout.
