THE stock market fell 2.2 percent in early trading on Monday as investors sold off positions ahead of a possible interest rate adjustment when the Monetary Board, the policymaking body of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), meets later this week.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) fell 168.12 points or 2.23 percent to pause at 7,361.42 at the midday break, while the broader All Shares dropped 83.65 points or 1.82 percent to 4,509.53.
