COTABATO CITY: Sultan Kudarat Gov. Pax Mangudadatu has expressed alarm over the rash of violent attacks against village officials in Isulan town in Sultan Kudarat.
Mangudadatu lamented that Isulan, aside from its town police office, is also the home of the Sultan Kudarat police provincial office and the provincial public safety company.
“The police must address this matter very quickly,” Mangudadatu said.
Since 2015, at least four local officials have been attacked in what authorities believe was related to the government’s war on drugs, according to the governor.
He recalled that in April last year, Isulan town Councilor Elmo Segura was shot dead. Three more were killed on separate occasions during the same period.
Also killed was Barangay Sampao Chairman Rodrigo Mercado on August 17, 2016. A month later, village councilman Carlos Fabregar of Barangay Kalawag 2 was also shot dead by unknown armed me riding a motorcycle.
The latest fatality was Councilman Gani Sendad of Barangay Kalawag 3 who was shot dead on December 5 while heading for home from an anti-drug operation in his village.
Mangudadatu said he is challenging the local police to act on the attacks against village officials.
