Metro Manila and 29 other areas have been put storm signals as tropical storm Gorio is expected to make landfall in Eastern Samar on Saturday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Asof 5 a.m. Saturday, Gorio was 90 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 85 kph.
Gorio is forecast to move northwest at 15 kph and expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday morning.
Placed under storm signal number 2 are Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Burias Island, Ticao Island, Samar Provinces, Biliran and Leyte.
Under signal number 1 are Camarines Norte, Quezon, Polillo Island, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Aklan, Capiz, Northeastern Iloilo, Bantayan Island, Camotes Island, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Province and Siargao Island.
Light to moderate rains over Luzon including Metro Manila by Saturday evening as the storm enhances the southwest monsoon.
Gorio is forecast to move northwest at 15 kph and may be in the vicinity of Legazpi City in Albay by Sunday morning.
