Calbayog City, Samar: A 14-year-old girl died on Monday night, two days after she was hit by a stray bullet from a shooting incident in Ormoc City which targeted a man facing multiple murder cases.
Police said Angel Baylon succumbed after fighting for life from a bullet wound in the head.
Baylon and her friend Missy Suela, 12, were at the entrance of Bagacay Beach Resort along Maharlika Highway in Ormoc on Saturday when a gunman, back riding in a motorcycle, fired shots at Jimboy Tomnob, who was coming out of the resort.
Tomnob, also known as “Imboy Tomnob”, “Jemboy Doinog” and “Jimboy Dealagdon”, is a habal-habal (improvised tricycle) driver, and reportedly a member of a private armed group (PAG) facing a string of homicide and murder cases.
The gunshots also hit Tomnob in the right arm and Suela in the chest. Both suffered fractured bones and are recovering at an undisclosed hospital.
Tomnob told police that he recognized the suspects but could not remember their names.
Calbayog police officer-in-charge Chief Insp. Elmer Vergara said investigation is being conducted to identify the suspects, hinting that a personal grudge is presumed as the motive in the shooting.
