Sual power plant back on the grid

Team Energy Corp.’s 1,200-megawatt (MW) Sual coal-fired power plant returned to its full capacity on Saturday, after repair work on its Unit 1 was completed.

“Sual Unit 1 was declared fully available at 3:23 a.m. today [Saturday],” Team Energy Corp. Senior Manager for External Affairs Gregory Romualdez said.

The Pangasinan-based coal-fired power plant went off the grid on Friday morning due to the disrupted supply of coal to its boiler.

The operation of its 2nd 600-MW unit was restored Friday night.

Sual, the biggest power plant in Luzon, provides a huge fraction of the island’s power supply needs.

Its return online is timely because the Malampaya gas plant will be shut down beginning today until April 15 for its annual maintenance.
