Veteran grappler Nikkita Suarez bagged one gold and one silver to lead the winners in the women’s division of the Ultimate Challenge 2—Takedown Wrestling Challenge at the Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.
Suarez, a BSBA Human Resource Development Management student at New Era University, beat April Samadio of Quezon City Wrestling Team in the finals of the 50-kilogram event. LJ Cruz of Bulacan settled for bronze.
Suarez also secured a silver medal in the 60-kg category, topped by Cassie Umali of Safehouse Team in the tournament sanctioned by the Wrestling Association of the Philippines.
Quezon City’s Abigail Valena ruled the 45-kg. event while Honeylette Beros of Bulacan and Geselle Lauyon of Quezon City finished second and third, respectively.
In the men’s division, Martin Cardillo of Bulacan dominated the 55-kg., beating silver medalist JR Acero of Symmetry and bronze winner Danny Dilag of Safehouse, while Arens Rañola of Sprawl reigned supreme in the 60-kg. against second-placer Jimboy Ponlita of Ultimate Fitness and third-placer Dean Bermudez of Safehouse.
The other winners were gold medalist Ryan Jakiri, silver medalist Ricardo Dacuyan and Joseph Mercado (66-kg.), gold medalist Patrick Gambe, silver medalist Cocoy Lopez and bronze medalist Paulo Mirandilla (76-kg.); gold medalist Ehsan Mousaei, silver medalist Harvey Navarro and bronze medalist Russell Winmill (80-kg.); and gold medalist Gilbert Ombao and silver medalist Chris Hettel (90-kg.).
