Motor Image, the official distributor of Subaru in South East Asia, has today revealed the Subaru Levorg for their respective markets. The new Levorg is a wagon based on the Impreza and derives its name from Legacy (LE), Revolution (VO) and Touring (RG).
“Subaru’s brand new model is an Innovative Tourer that combines the sports performance of Subaru with the practicality of a wagon,” said Mr. Glenn Tan, Executive Director of Tan Chong International. “With a newly developed boxer engine, agile handling and an abundant load space, we feel that the Levorg will appeal to the functional, family orientated and adventurous customer who appreciates performance, touring capabilities and ample cargo space.”
Marketed as an innovative tourer, the new Levorg takes the existing Impreza architecture and platform, and gets stretched to wagon dimensions. As a result, the Levorg measures in at 4690mm long, 1780mm wide and 1485mm tall (1490mm for the GT-S). With the extended boot space generated by the longer wagon body shell, the Levorg is capable of handling 522 liters of volume in the back with the seats still up.
At the heart of the Levorg is a newly developed 1.6-liter boxer engine that has been turbocharged and intercooled. The result is a powerplant that makes 170 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The new engine is matched with a Lineartronic CVT and Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
The Levorg’s list of features will vary from country to country, though at the launch in Taipei, the Levorg cam come with features such as SI Drive, an Idling Stop System (ISS), Bluetooth, a Touch Screen Multi Function Display, a Vehicle Dynamics Control System, Active Torque Vectoring, 7 airbags, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist and more.
During the regional launch of the 2016 Subaru Levorg, The Manila Times got in touch with Motor Image executives and we asked what the target price was for the new wagon.
“We are targeting between PhP 1.7 to PhP 1.8 million,” said Mr. Mike Luyun, Motor Image’s Chief Operating Officer for After Sales.
For the initial batch, the Levorg will only arrive in 1.6 GT-S trim according to Mr. Naugi Jensen, Motor Image Pilipinas Marketing Manager. Later on, the Levorg will be eventually made available with the 1.6 GT version.
Of the many features in the Levorg GT-S such as the cross-traffic alert, traction control, advanced headlamps, etc., only EyeSight (a safety feature that automatically brakes the car when it detects an imminent collision) will not be present.
“The Levorg is definitely something new in our market because it’s a sport touring car,” said Mr. Bob Palanca, Country Manager and Deputy GM for Motor Image Pilipinas. “We would like to take the lead in this segment as it’s high time for our market to get this kind of a vehicle, something that we havent had in a while at an affordable price.”
Expect the Subaru Levorg to be launched by Motor Image Pilipinas in December with first deliveries to take place in January.
