Subic logistics meet gathers 31 countries

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will host this year’s planning group of one of the biggest gatherings of military logistics delegates from 31 member-states, a military official said on Tuesday.

Col. Noel Detoyato, chief of the AFP Public Affairs Office, said the Pacific Area Officers Logistics Seminar (Pasols) Planning Group 45 will have its meeting on June 1 to June 4 at the Subic Bay Freeport Complex in Olongapo City, Zambales.

“This planning group will prepare the agenda for the actual Pasols gathering later this year in Singapore where they will craft the seminar’s Mutual Logistics Support Handbook,” he said.

According to Detoyato, it will also evaluate the progress of ongoing initiatives, review accomplished discussions and workshops and review detailed arrangements and reports for the annual meeting.

The handbook, he explained, will serve as a guide for planning procedures and standardized approaches for coordination to the member nations, which this year will focus on humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR).

“Given the focus of the meeting this year, member-0nations unanimously requested the presentation of lessons learned from Super Typhoon Yolanda [international name: Haiyan]as applied to the preparations for the coming of Typhoon Hagupit,” Detoyato said.

The seminar is a dynamic and growing organization of nations from the Asia Pacific and Indian Ocean region.

Established in 1971, it has since grown to accommodate up to 130 delegates annually composed of star-ranked and senior logistics military officers.

Discussions in the seminar have been non-political and have become a forum for information sharing, regional cooperation and logistical interoperability, Detoyato said.
