Subway feasibility study likely ready in 18 mths – Abaya

THE Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) feasibility study on a planned subway system through greater Metro Manila should be ready for National Economic and Development Agency (NEDA) board approval in 18 months, said Transportation and Communications Secretary Jose Emilio Abaya said.

“It has been communicated with JICA that they may proceed with the feasibility study,” Abaya said.

The most expensive public-private partnership project in the pipeline, the Makati-Pasay-Taguig Transit System Loop is a P374.5-billion subway system that will run at 20 kilometers across Metro Manila.

Initially, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) was targeting to roll out the project this year but Abaya said it will happen under the next administration.
