Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), a government agency dedicated to tourism promotion of the Republic of Korea, officially announced that Philippine celebrity Sue Ramirez as a new honorary ambassador for Korean tourism.
New honorary ambassador Sue Ramirez said, “I am deeply humbled and honored for this rare opportunity.
This is a wonderful chance for me not only to learn the fascinating culture and heritage of Korea but to share the Philippines’ culture as well.”
Inshik Park, Director of KTO Manila Office commented “We are very happy to have Sue Ramirez as our honorary ambassador for Korean tourism. We think that Sue Ramirez is the right choice to be an honorary ambassador because she is very interested in Korean culture and its people. She is a rising star in the field of showbiz in the Philippines and we would like to give her more chances to promote Korea and Korean tourism.
In addition, she has more than 1.5 million fans from her social networking sites such as Instragram, Facebook and Twitter which will be potential supporters of Korea tourism like herself.”
Sue Ramirez as the honorary ambassador for Korean tourism will be given chances to visit Korea and will be sharing her experiences during her trips via her social networking sites . She will also show up to promote Korea at various events which will be arranged by KTO and Korean government agencies. She will serve as the honorary ambassador until November 2018.
According to KTO, Korea received a total of 465,782 Filipino tourists from January to October in 2016, posting an increase of 38.7-percent compared to previous year’s total of 335,868 from January to October.
Sue Ramirez also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Jaeshin Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea. Ambassador Kim said, “Both of us are ambassadors and I hope we give Filipino people a great impact to promote Korean tourism and culture”.
The Organization said having a celebrity ambassador indeed help a lot promoting Korean tourism.
“Yes, it helped a lot. It is a huge factor that people recognize and know about Korean Tourism in a fast and easy way. For example, our former ambassador, Jessy Mediola, posted her Jeju travel photos in her social networking sites . She went to Seongsan Ilchubong (Sunrise peak), Jusanggeolli cliff and Cheonjiyeon Falls (those are UNESCO Heritage attractions), and tried Korean seafood and Kimchi. A lot of people commented on her photo and said they also want to go to Jeju to experience it. It is very simple but it creates a big impact,” Park said.
For 2017, KTO is planning to promote Korea Tourism as their brand marketing. They will be having online and offline events, such as exhibitions to promote Korea Tourism and to provide Korea travelupdates. KTO is also planning to bring the Ramirez to Korea early next year.
Another plan is to have FAM tours with travel agencies and the press. KTO also encouraging outbound travel
agencies to develop new Korea packages in coordination with the airlines.
