BACOLOD CITY: An official of the Sugar Alliance of the Philippines (SAP) called Senator Franklin Drilon “a traitor to the industry” as he disclosed that the Ilonggo lawmaker was one of those who voted to reduce the excise tax on high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) during recent Senate deliberations.

Voting on the excise tax on sugar and HFCS in the Senate was very close with eight senators voting 8–7 in favor of imposing a higher excise tax on HFSC.
