A part of Greenbelt 5 garden was transformed into a tropical venue filled with summer colors, flowers, cocktails and cold drinks as the Bench’s latest summer fragrance Isla Paloma was launched in the market.
Created by “It Girl” and “Benchsetter” Monica Urquijo, the scent captures her passion for the summer and fuses the season with her Spanish-Filipino heritage, and playful and spirited personality.
According to Urquijo, she drew inspiration for her fragrance from summer and Spain. “We wanted to take a classic Spanish cologne and make it fun by mixing it with floral and citrus smells,” she said.
The product was named Isla Paloma because it reminds Urquijo of summer in the Philippines where she grew up until she was nine years old. “Isla is island in Spanish and Paloma stands for my sister’s name—both are close to my heart,” she added.
The daughter of Bea Zobel Jr. and the granddaughter of Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Monica is grateful to her family not only for their support, but also for the values they instilled in her—that of hard work and commitment. She is also thankful for the creative freedom that Ben Chan and his staff gave her to come up with a scent that is Isla Paloma. Lea Manto-Beltran
