WITH more of its subscribers shifting to smartphones, mobile service innovator Sun Cellular is further expanding its 3G network coverage in Mindanao.
“We are moving to stay ahead of the increasing demand for mobile Internet, especially for our growing base in Mindanao,” said Charles Lim, chief operating officer of Sun Cellular.
The official added that the move is a vital part of the company’s nationwide network expansion in coordination with its sister companies in the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. Group.
The company said that the 3G network-boosting program is intended to enhance customer experience through faster browsing speeds and more extensive 3G coverage.
“We have optimized our coverage in over 20 new areas in Mindanao, and are now even looking at provisioning mobile Internet speeds of up to 7.2Mbps,” Lim said.
The expansion areas of Sun Cellular include the provinces of Zamboanga, Agusan, Lanao, North and South Cotabato and Bukidnon.
Besides an established presence in the major areas and key cities of Mindanao, the company also aims to provide an enhanced mobile browsing experience for the locals and tourists in the coastal, as well as inland areas of the region.
By the end of the first quarter this year, Sun Cellular has reported a hefty 71-percent growth in its mobile Internet revenues on top of its network expansion efforts.
Sun Cellular is a member of the PLDT Group.
“The brand sees sustained growth in its data services through the introduction of user-oriented offerings and strategic partnerships with content providers,” Lim said.
