Sun Devils stop Commodores, nail 10th win


Arizona State blasted Vander­bilt via a 76-64 decision to claim its 10th straight win in the NCAA Division 1 basketball tournament on Sunday (Monday in Manila) at the Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Arizona.

Guard Tra Holder sizzled with 25 points, five rebounds and two assists, shooting 6-of-15 from the field and had 11 attempts in the free-throw line to lead led the Sun Devils.

Arizona State won 10 consecutive games for the first time since James Harden’s rookie year in 2007.

Shannon Evans II chipped in 15 points on 4-of-12 shooting for the Sun Devils.

Arizona State had 21.7 percent (5-of-23) in the three-point area.

The Sun Devils also displayed power in the shaded area with 46 rebounds against the Commodores’ 38.

The Commodores absorbed their four consecutive loss.

Rookie guard Saben Lee bannered the Commodores with a career-high 24 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals.
