Star Magic artists trooped in full force to the La Salle Greenhills campus on May 3 for the Sun vs. Stars 5th Star Magic Games. With the help of Sunlife of Canada Philippines Inc., the artists had time to relax, have fun and explore their sporty side in basketball, volleyball, swimming, badminton and fun games.
Young stars Liza Soberano, Sofia Andres, Janella Salvador, Julia Barretto and Kathryn Bernardo were the front liners at the parade of colors as team muses. Maja Salvador on the other hand was the muse of the Sunlife Team.
Star Magic’s main man and Sunlife ambassador Piolo Pascual gave the opening remarks and did the torch lighting while Joseph Marco led the opening prayer. Gerald Anderson meanwhile led the oath of sportsmanship. The Voice Season 1 runner up Klarisse de Guz-man lead the singing of the National Anthem, and Star Magic big boss Johnny Manahan led the traditional ceremonial toss with captains of each team.
Special awards went to Yesha Camille (Early Bird), Inigo Pascual and Sofia Andres (Mr. and Ms. Sun vs. Stars), Xian Lim and Kim Chiu (Oishi O Wow Sportmanship), Jerome Ponce and Kathryn Bernardo (Oishi O wow Most Improved Players), and Erika Abello and Jon Lucas (Century Tuna Superbod Rookie Awardees).
The 1k run kids and teens division winners were Darlene Vibares and Inigo Pascual, while Toots Malapad and Evan Uy of the Sunlife Team won in the swim-ming competition.
PJ Endrinal and Neil Coleta’s tandem were the run-away winners at the badminton men’s division while Toni Pizarro and Erich Gonzales took home the gold in the women’s division. Meanwhile, Dominique Roque and Star Magic handler Kate Pepito took home first place in the mixed badminton division.
Julia Barretto was hailed Most Valuable Player. She was also part of the “Mythical Six” together with Jerome Ponce, Chokoleit, Paolo Tolentino, Irene Bartolome and Joseph Marco. The 2015 Best Female at Male Player awards were given to Erich Gonzales and Gerald.
Yellow Team was the champion for the kids and junior division basketball. Orange Team and Sunlife Team won in the exhibition game versus the Star Magic Dream Team led by Gerald. Zaijian Jaranilla, Andrei Felix and Daniel Padilla were announced the Most Valuable Players of the Year.
The event became more meaningful with the “Throwback 120” campaign of the Sunlife Foundation where every basket made by an artist equated to a P1,000 donation to charity. Since there was a total of 120 baskets made by Star Magic, they will be giving P120, 000 pesos to the Father Tito Caluag’s Team U scholars.
Also a highlight of the event was the special screening of the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr’s boxing match streamed live over big screens.
