THE Mitsubishi Lancer EX 1.6 is powered by the new 4A92 1.6-liter 16-valve DOHC engine that has been fitted with MIVEC, or the Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system, which promises performance across the rev range by adjusting the timing of the intake camshaft. The carmaker said the technology stabilizes the engine’s combustion without compromising fuel efficiency and emissions.
Mitsubishi reckoned its new 1.6-liter engine makes 115 horsepower at 6,000rpm and 154 Newton-meter of torque at 4,000rpm while still returning excellent fuel mileage.
The Lancer EX 1.6 is well equipped, too. It is available in GLX trim that can either have an automatic or a five-speed manual gearbox, or in MX trim, which is solely offered with the automatic. The MX gets HID headlamps while the GLX models are fitted with multi-reflector halogens.
In the cabin, the MX has a new three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel and has been trimmed with silver accents. It also flaunts an optional multimedia entertainment system that has DVD, MP3 playback, tuner and iPod connectivity. The system can be controlled through an eight-inch touch-screen monitor located at the center of the dashboard. The car also features Bluetooth connectivity that allows for hands-free telephone operation. The MX variant adds GPS navigation to its multimedia entertainment system.
