An unidentified assailant shot dead a female land negotiator for a mining firm inside a passenger multicab on Wednesday morning in a village in Surigao del Norte, police reports said on Thursday.
Reports at the Philippine National Police national operations center in Camp Crame identified the fatality as Marianesa Ballesca, 50, married, of Mainit town and is a land negotiator for Silangan Mining Corp.
Reports said that the killing occurred at around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday along the national highway in Barangay Upper Libas, Tagana-an town in Surigao del Norte.
Ballesca was in a passenger multicab heading home from Surigao City when the assailant, who was also aboard, shot her twice at pointblank range hitting her on the left neck killing her on the spot, reports said.
The reports said the gunman quickly got down the vehicle and fled, while the driver of the multicab, Ramonito Cervantes immediately reported the incident to the police.
