LUCENA CITY: After two years in hiding, one of the three suspects in the P9.4 million Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) fund robbery in Pagbilao town has been arrested.
Joint elements of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Calabarzon region—Quezon office, the Quezon provincial police and operatives of Lucena City Police Station arrested Emilron Dela Torre, in his hideout in Lakandula St., Barangay 7 in Lucena City on Sunday.
CIDG Director Chief Supt. Victor Deona said Dela Torre and two cohorts robbed five employees of the Philippine Postal Corporation Regional Office while on their way to deliver the 4Ps funds to San Francisco town on October 15, 2013.
The suspect, who did not resist arrest, is detained at the CIDG Quezon Custodial Facility.
The victims of the heist, identified as Brian Dizon, Odith Cadano, Geraldine Badong, Nino Calabia, Patrick and James Patungan—all employees of the Philippine Postal Corporation Regional Office in Pagbilao— were robbed after having lunch in a restaurant along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Malicboy, Pagbilao town in Quezon.
The suspects attempted to commandeer the victims’ Starex van but Dizon, the designated driver, refused to turn over the keys of the vehicle. Infuriated, one of the suspects shot Dizon twice in the leg. The suspects then took the money inside the van and fled on board a motorcycle.
Police investigators filed a case of robbery against the suspects before the Lucena Regional Trial Court. Judge Dennis Orendain issued a warrant of arrest against the suspects on January 2015. Del Torre’s two cohorts, however, remain at large.
