Suspected drug pusher killed in shootout

ZAMBOANGA CITY: A suspected drug pusher was killed in a shootout with policemen in an apartment in Santa Maria Village, Zamboanga City.

Authorities identified the victim as Joel Sacro, who was initially reported as a member of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). However, the police confirmed that Sacro was with an alleged PDEA agent when the shootout erupted.

The policemen recovered two .45-caliber pistols and an automatic rifle in the apartment. A follow-up operation is ongoing to locate the whereabouts of Sacro’s companion.

On Friday, the police also arrested five people during a raid in the neighboring village of Tetuan.

Police commandos swooped down on a house owned by couple Marimar and Sheralyn Ajurani and arrested Vilma Musahari, 55; Nuhin Jordan, 31; Kunna Muhalib, 50; Tani Asarakil, 20; and Hadzkil Asarakil, 15.

Authorities also seized suspected illegal drugs, weapons, and ammunitions, including cash amounting to P94,000.

Illegal drug trade is rampant in Zamboanga City. In May, a teenager who was suspected of buying illegal drugs was gunned down by a group of men in Santa Catalina Village.
