Suspected NPA rebels killed in Quezon

TAYABAS CITY, Quezon: Two suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed on Monday during an encounter with soldiers from the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division in Sitio Pinagbanderahan, Barangay Palali here.

One of the fatalities was identified as Peping Agudo, logistics and finance officer of Sangay sa Platon (SPn) Bagong Silang of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC).

Agudo was captured in 2012 and jailed in Bicutan. He was able to jump bail and went back to the underground movement and led in several extortion activities.

Recovered from the encounter were two M16 rifles, one M14 rifle and five backpacks with subversive documents.

Southern Luzon Command Chief Lieutenant General Caesar Ronnie Ordoyo commended the troops and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to continue ensuring peace and development in the region.

“We call on to the remaining members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA to return to the folds of the law, reunite with their respective families, and enjoy peaceful lives. Our call goes hand-in-hand with our offer to assist rebel returnees in obtaining the national government’s comprehensive livelihood integration programs. We affirm our commitment to pursue “winning the peace” though Internal Peace and Security Plan-Bayanihan,” Ordoyo concluded.
