Earth Hour is tonight at 8:30
The World Wide Fund for Nature’s annual Earth Hour movement takes place again tonight at 8:30 p.m. First held as a lights-off event in Sydney Australia in 2007, WWF created what is now a worldwide event to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to symbolize a commitment to save the planet.
Besides restaurants, hotels, malls and other commercial establishments across the country observing Earth Hour tonight, homegrown flip flops brand Banana Peel has also joined the cause with its very own Earth Hour 2016 collection. An emblem of renewable energy, the black rubber slippers bearing colorful geometric and floral designs are also glow-in-the-dark to encourage everyone to switch off and choose earth tonight and beyond.
As part of this environmental campaign, every pair purchased from the WWF-Banana Peel collection will help deploy solar lamps to light up the off-grid community of Monreal, Masbate. The goal is to help provide the sitios of this town with clean sustainable sources of electricity, replacing the costly and hazardous use of kerosene.
