• Taiwan, China set for cross-strait talks

TAIPEI: The Taipei-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and the Beijing-headquartered Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) are scheduled to hold their 11th round of talks on August 25 in Fuzhou, China, the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced late Tuesday. The two sides will finalize agreements on aviation safety, including fit-to-fly criteria, and taxation cooperation issues. According to the Taiwan Finance Ministry, the collaborative tax mechanisms are projected to generate from NT$8.1 billion to NT$13.3 billion ($250 million to $410 million) in additional revenues for Taiwan annually. The MOFA said that SEF and ARATS have successfully concluded 21 cross-strait agreements since 2008, addressing such issues as direct flights, food safety management, and health care cooperation.
