TAIWAN DOCTORS URGE VIGILANCE OVER NEW BIRD FLU VIRUS

PARIS: Taiwanese researchers on Friday called on watchdogs to keep up their guards after a flu virus, commonly circulating among chickens, was found for the first time in a human being. Researchers found the strain in a 20-year-old patient from central Taiwan. They said that it was of relatively low virulence but the risk is that it could mix with other viruses to become more dangerous. Researchers said that their report “highlights the continuous need for preparedness for a pandemic of unpredictable and complex avian influenza.”
