A fifteen-member medical delegation composed of 11 doctors, two medical professionals and two staffers arrived in Manila on April 21 for a medical and dental mission in the Typhoon Yolanda affected areas of of the Bantayan Island in Cebu from April 22 to 24.
Through the coordination and arrangement of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (Teco), the mission was also co-organized by the Taiwan Red Cross and the Taiwan Dental Association (TDA), in cooperation with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA). The associations’ charitable endeavors were repaid with happy and healthy smiles from more than 1,000 underprivileged typhoon victims.
Given the geographic proximity and traditional amity, both countries maintain close relations. Taiwan, through its representative office—Teco—has been a key partner of the Philippines in providing immediate humanitarian aid and development assistance.Taiwan is known as the first country to render prompt rescue efforts to help in the Typhoon Yolanda relief operations. Its relentless efforts, such as the recent medical mission, shows a helping hand to those affected by typhoon that further exemplify Taiwan’s genuine neighbor relations with the Philippines.
Over the past decade, the TDA and PDA have been traveling extensively to different parts of the Philippines, including Bacolod, Bukidon and mountainous areas in central Luzon, to conduct free dental and medical missions. Two associations have also established partnership that leverages on “Continuing Dental Education” in the Philippines to uplift the country’s state of oral health care.
To further strengthen this worthwhile cause, Teco has sought the full support of the Peerless Lion Corporation, makers of Systema Tooth and Gum Care oral products made with Japanese advanced technology aiming to make people ready for life.
With the determination of fulfilling its cooperate social responsibility, Peerless Lion Corporation extended financial support to the medical mission possible and donated Systema products such as toothpaste and toothbrush for the dental mission. Adhering to the belief of never getting tired of doing good, Peerless Lion Corporation vows to give the best dental health service that the Filipino people deserves.
According to statistics, 78 percent of Filipinos have periodontal disease. It requires collaborative efforts to address this serious issue, especially in the typhoon-affected areas where most of the dental clinics and practices have ceased operations. It is certain that the collaboration of TDA, PDA and Peerless Lion Corporation is a partnership that Teco will continue to foster in the years to come.
