Talk ‘N Text battle Blaze Boosters today

DEFENDING champion Talk ‘N Text faces equally tough Petron Blaze while Globalport meets Air 21 Express today in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Both the Tropang Texters and the Blaze Boosters have identical 1-0 slates after beating separate foes in the opener. Talk ‘N Text, fresh from its 89-80 win over Meralco on Sunday at the Cebu City Coliseum will battle the Blaze Boosters at 5:45 p.m. while Globalport Batang Pier squares off against the Express in the first game at 3:30 p.m.

Even with the absence of key players Alex Cabagnot, Ronald Tubid and Chico Lanetes and the injury of Yousif Taha in the second quarter, the Blaze Boosters pulled off a 97-87 over Globalport.

The 6’7 Taha, an 11th overall pick by Air 21 in 2012, might not be able to play in today’s game, a cause of worry for coach Gee Abanilla, who will rely on Jason Deutchman, Chris Lutz, Marcio Lassiter, Paolo Hubalde, Chris Ross, Arwind Santos, Dough Kramer and 6’10 June Mar Fajardo against Talk ‘N Text’s Jason Castro, Jimmy Alapag, Kelly Williams, Harvey Carey and Larry Fonacier.

Castro and the returning Williams along with rookie Eliud Poligrates and transferee Noy Baclao combined for 57 points and 20 rebounds to power Talk ‘N Text’s win against Meralco.
