SOLO leader Talk ‘N Text risks its unbeaten record when it takes on Barako Bull while San Mig Coffee battles Ginebra today in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Tropang Texters are aiming for their fourth straight win when they collide with the Energy Cola at 3 pm. The Coffee Mixers, on the other hand, are also looking for their second victory when they face the Gin Kings at 5:15 p.m.
Despite the ejection of head coach Norman Black early in the fourth period, the Tropang Texters kept their composure to post a 107-99 win over erstwhile co-leader San Miguel Beer on Friday.
The 6’7 import Richard Howell finished with 38 points on top of 20 rebounds, four assists, five steals and a block to lead the Tropang Texters to victory over the Beermen.
Howell, a former North Carolina State University standout, averaged 27.33 points, 20.67 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.67 steals and a block per game in his three matches with the Tropang Texters earning his reputation as one of the top imports in the current conference.
He will be up against Barako Bull’s Joshua Dollard, who posted 12 points and nine rebounds in their 85-103 losing game against Air 21 also on Friday. The 6’8 Dollard started strong with 45 points and 18 rebounds against Ginebra in his debut on March 7 and later finished with 44 points and 19 rebounds over Rain or Shine on March 9.
The Philippine Cup champions Coffee Mixers will enter the match carrying a 1-0 card following a 91-75 win over Globalport on Wednesday while Ginebra is carrying a 1-1 slate after losing to the Beermen, 96-112, on Sunday.
