Talks held to address Puerto Princesa crime, poverty

A lawmaker launched over the weekend multi-sectoral consultations in a bid to curb surging crime and poverty rates in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Rep. Douglas Hagedorn of Puerto Princesa, together with 20 participants representing government agencies, business, civil society and the media, have forged the so-called “Puerto Princesa Protocol”, a declaration of unity and continuing cooperation for peace and development in the district. “The only way to fight crime is to first address it from its roots, for it is apparent that where poverty level rises, crime rate also increases. Hence, it is imperative to ensure that concerned government institutions and enforcement agencies perform their respective function,” said Hagedorn.
