Far Eastern University (FEU) demolished University of Batangas (UB), 9-1, to claim its third win in the Ang Liga first division on Saturday at the San Beda College Football Field in Manila.
After suffering a 4-1 loss against San Beda in their previous outing, the Tamaraws returned to the winning column with a convincing victory over the provincial varsity club.
Rico Andes led the offense of the former University Athletic Association of the Philippines champions with a hat-trick performance following goals in the 14th, 32nd and 46th minutes.
Michael Menzi also starred for the Tamaraws with twin goals in the 22nd and 40th minutes of the one-sided affair.
Resty Monterona, Alex Rayos, Nicholas Ferrer and Dong Gyu Jung all made their presence felt after converting one goal each to continue their club’s ascent to the top four.
On the other hand, Javier Ramos snatched the only tally for the Brahmans in the 43rd minute to deny their much-favored foes a clean sheet before the end of the match.
With the win, FEU moved up to sixth spot with a record of three wins, three draws and two losses for a total of 12 points in the elimination round.
Last year’s second division winner UB is still on the prowl for debut win in the top league with just a draw and eight losses on its card.
In the other game, National University slipped past University of Santo Tomas, 1-0, through the lone strike of Joven Jovera in the 71st minute.
