FAR Eastern University (FEU) and defending champion De La Salle University now share the No.1 spot with Ateneo De Manila University after beating their respective rivals on Saturday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
FEU scored a 66-55 win over University of Santo Tomas (UST), while La Salle bagged its seventh straight win by beating University of the Philippines (UP), 86-65. The Fighting Maroons’ win-loss record dropped to 1-8 despite JR Gallarza’s 18 points and Mikee Reyes’ 14.
After finishing without a single point in their 67-69 loss to UST in the first round, Roger Pogoy bounced back by posting a career-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting in the field with five rebounds for the Tamaraws. Center Mac Belo contributed 12 points and eight rebounds for FEU.
The 6’7 Cameroonian center Karim Abdul notched a season-high 24 points plus 16 rebounds and five steals for UST. The Growling Tigers’ win-loss record dropped to 4-5.
FEU, La Salle and Ateneo are now bearing 7-2 win-loss cards.
