Far Eastern University (FEU) will be gunning for its ninth win against defending champion Ateneo de Manila University today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Tamaraws and Blue Eagles collide at 4 p.m. right after the tussle between last year’s runner-up University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Adamson University at 2 p.m.
FEU and Ateneo are both in high spirits following their victories last Sunday against separate foes.
The Tamaraws nailed a 98-94 double overtime win over University of the East (UE) that put them on top of the standings with an 8-2 mark.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) candidate Terrence Romeo, who fired a career-high 30 points the last time out, is expected to rampage anew for FEU while former season MVP Ryan Roose Garcia will be back in the fold after serving a one-game suspension.
The Blue Eagles, for their part, are riding on a four-game winning streak including their 79-66 demolition of Adamson.
Scoring machines Kiefer Ravena and Ryan Buenafe delivered 18 points each in their last game with rookie Chris Newsome, Nico Elorde and Juami Tingson providing support with a combined 25-point output.
Ateneo is sharing the fourth spot with UE with identical 5-4 cards.
In their first meeting last July 3, FEU hurdled past Ateneo via a 79-75 overtime win.
