Tamaraws trounce Blue Eagles in UAAP football


FAR Eastern University (FEU) routed defending champion Ateneo De Manila University, 3-0, to keep the lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 men’s football tilt at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field on Sunday.

FEU’s Chy Villaseñor and Paolo Bugas posted goals at the 12th and 33rd minute. The team’s victory was sealed with a third goal by freshman Resty Monterona. The Tamaraws have now accumulated 21 points.

Meanwhile, the match between University of Santo Tomas (UST) and University of the Philippines ended in a 1-1 draw while National University (NU) upset University of the East (UE), 2-1, to keep their semifinals hopes alive.

The Fighting Maroons remained at second place with 16 points, while the Growling Tigers, who have 11 points, are behind the Red Warriors by a point.

In the women’s division, UST elicited a scoreless draw from FEU to keep the lead with 11 points. The match between Ateneo and La Salle also ended in a 1-1 draw. Ateneo is occupying the second spot with nine points.
