Far Eastern University (FEU) clipped Adamson University, 90-73, to claim the first Final Four slot in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
FEU is still on top with a 10-2 card while winless Adamson absorbed its 12th straight loss.
The Tamaraws got 18 points from Alejandrino Inigo with Mike Tolomia and Mark Belo delivering 17 points apiece. Roger Pogoy also nailed 12 markers.
Earlier, Ateneo de Manila University survived the brave stand of University of the Philippines (UP), 70-69, to grab the solo second.
The Blue Eagles rolled to their ninth win in 12 games while the Fighting Maroons suffered their 11th loss against one win.
Kiefer Ravena topscored for Ateneo with 18 points on top of five rebounds and seven assists while Nico Elorde added 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Thirdy Ravena, Arvin Tolentino and Gideon Babilonia contributed eight points each.
“I’m not happy with how we won. They [UP] defended well and we couldn’t score when needed. This win gets us even with the other teams,” said Ateneo head coach Bo Perasol.
“It’s a lesson for me. I hope that we can improve our game against Adamson [on Sunday],” he added.
UP had a chance to snatch its second win but Mikee Reyes missed a couple of free throws with 0.8 second remaining in the fourth quarter.
Reyes finished with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists while JR Gallarza had 18 markers, Diego Dario chipped in 13 points and Dave Moralde scored 11 for UP.
