FAR Eastern University (FEU) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) routed separate opponents on Saturday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball Season 76 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
FEU banked on the explosiveness of shooting guard Terrence Romeo to post a convincing 92-80 victory against host Adamson University. The Tamaraws, after breaking a two-game losing skid, is now assured of a slot in the Final Four with a 9-5 win-loss log.
“Adamson really fought hard but we have to fight and avoid a third loss. My teammates played their best in this game too,” said Romeo, who finished with a career-high 32 points on 13-of-24 field goal shooting from the field in addition to his eight rebounds and four assists.
FEU’s big man Mark Belo posted a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds while Ryan Roose Garcia piled up 14 points along with six assists four of which with two steals.
“I’m happy with the way they play. We just have to be consistent in our remaining games,” said FEU mentor Nash Racela.
The Falcons’ record dropped to 4-9 and are now eliminated in the battle for the Final Four spot. La Salle, UST, Ateneo and UE are fighting for the last two slots.
Earlier, UST used a 23-6 fourth quarter run to rout winless University of the Philippines (UP), 63-39, to emerge solo fourth with 7-5 win-loss slate.
