Far Eastern University (FEU) stakes its unblemished record against National University (NU) when the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 men’s basketball tournament resumes today at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Tamaraws-Bulldogs matchup is scheduled at 4 p.m. while De La Salle University takes on Adamson University in the first game at 2 p.m.
FEU holds the No. 1 spot with a clean 7-0 record followed by NU (4-3), Season 75 runner-up University of Santo Tomas (4-3), University of the East (4-3), La Salle (3-4), Adamson (3-4), defending champion Ateneo de Manila University (3-4) and University of the Philippines (0-7).
The Tamaraws are looking to duplicate their 87-83 win over the Bulldogs on July 17 in the first round with Most Valuable Player (MVP) top candidate Terrence Romeo scoring 24 points, three rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Besides Romeo, FEU has a lot of good shooters including former season MVP Ryan Roose Garcia, Mike Tolomia and Roger Pogoy.
NU, on the other hand, has two-time reigning MVP Bobby Ray Parks Jr., who is currently second in the MVP race. Parks nailed a total of 132 points, 66 rebounds, 31 assists, nine steals and five blocks in the first round.
Cameroonian Emmanuel Mbe is also expected to provide firepower for the Bulldogs. He delivered 27 markers and 17 boards against FEU the last time out.
The UAAP took a two-week break when the country hosted the 27th International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Championships where the Philippines finished second behind Iran. The silver-medal finish of the Philippines is good enough to earn a ticket to the prestigious World Cup slated next year in Spain.
