Tams thump Archers as UST blunts Warriors’ late surge


SOLO leader Far Eastern University (FEU) survived De La Salle University’s onslaught to post an 83-79 overtime victory in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Saturday.

After struggling in the first three periods, Terrence Romeo and Ryan Roose Garcia led the Tamaraws to their fourth straight win.

Romeo notched 25 points along with five assists and four rebounds, Garcia scattered 12 of his 19 points in the fourth and overtime period while Mark Belo added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

La Salle’s Luigi Dela Paz handed the Green Archers its biggest lead at 73-60, after posting a triple with only 2:30 remaining in the regulation.

With the loss, La Salle University dropped to 2-2 win-loss slate.

In the other match, University of Santo Tomas (UST) withstood University of the East’s (UE) fiery fourth-quarter comeback to forge an 88-77 win on Saturday in UAAP men’s basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Growling Tigers’ Cameroonian center Kareem Abdul and forward Aljon Mariano registered career-highs 25 and 24 points to help UST bounce back from Thursday’s loss to the National University Bulldogs.

The Growling Tigers, who also drew 19 points from Ed Daquioag, improved to 3-1 win-loss slate while the Red Warriors dropped to 1-3 on back-to-back losses.
