ZAMBOANGA CITY: A bus driver was killed in a gun attack in the southern province of Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.
Police said that sdthe victim, Arniel Andicoy, was shot this week by two gunmen riding tandem on a motorcycle along the highway in Imelda town.
Andicoy, who worked for Rural Transit Inc., was shot as he was slowing down in the village of Gandiangan.
The driver was heading to Pagadian City but made a stopover in Siay tow. Police said the attackers may have followed the bus from Siay and attacked Andicoy when he slowed down to allow bus inspector George Amorganda to disembark.
The gunmen fled after the shooting. Andicoy was shot several times with a .45 pistol, according to the police.
The motive of the attack is still unknown. The bus firm is one of the biggest in southern Philippines.
Last year, one of its buses was bombed in Zamboanga City and five passengers were wounded in the blast blamed by authorities to rebels who were extorting money from the company.
